Variable nodes
Variable nodes store values, count, and show values while you build a flow. Variables belong to the flow they are in and keep their values between runs until the flow stops. See how nodes work for how to read the diagrams below.
Display
Shows a value on the node itself, which is useful while building a flow.
- Label
- Text shown before the value. Default empty.
- Max Length
- Longest preview to build, 10 to 500 characters. Default 50.
Each time it runs, Display shows the value in a strip under its pins. Text is shown in quotes and lists show their first five items. The strip fits about 22 characters, so longer previews are cut off on the canvas.
Get Variable
Reads a variable, and can react whenever it changes.
- Variable Name
- Default myVar.
Wire Execute to read the current value and continue from Done. On Set works on its own, without Execute: whenever a Set Variable node with the same name runs, this node reads the new value and fires On Set. That lets one part of a flow react to another.
Set Variable
Writes a value to a variable.
- Variable Name
- Default myVar.
- Default Value
- Stored when the flow starts, and used when Value is not connected. Default empty.
Variable Source
Provides a fixed value.
- Value
- Default 42.
Variable Source has no Flow pins, so it never needs to be triggered: any node
that reads its Value gets it on demand. Text that looks like true/false, a
number, or a JSON object or list is converted to that type. Anything else stays
text, and an empty Value produces nothing.
Counter
Keeps a running count that changes each time it runs.
- Start Value
- Default 0.
- Default Step
- Added on each run. Use a negative number to count down. Default 1.
On each run, Set Value takes priority over Reset, and Reset takes priority over stepping. The count shows under the node and starts over from Start Value when the flow restarts.
